There are so many fun things to do with kids around Easthaven. The most obvious is the water- swimming, boating, fishing and crabbing, but here are my top 5 other ideas for days when it’s not as nice on the water:
- Westmoreland State Park: Enjoy a day of adventure at Westmoreland State Park. With great hiking trails for all skill levels, fishing spots, and kayaking opportunities, this park is perfect for family picnics and outdoor fun. There's also a ranger station where you can learn more about the history and flora and fauna in the area and they've always got something cool for the kids to do. Fossil Beach is our absolute favorite- a great walk with a fossil treasure hunt at the end, what could be better? There's also another beach area for some sun and relaxation. We include a parking pass when you stay with us so that you can make sure to take advantage of all the park has to offer.
- Westmoreland County Museum: Dive into local history at the Westmoreland County Museum. This museum offers interactive exhibits that are both educational and entertaining for kids and adults. It’s a great way to learn about the area’s rich heritage. It doesn't take long and is really unique. When we went, the Watermen of Westmoreland County exhibit was the absolute best.
-
Stratford Hall: Visit the historic Stratford Hall, the birthplace of Robert E. Lee. Take a guided tour of the estate, explore the beautiful gardens, and hike the nature trails. This site offers a fascinating glimpse into colonial history, making it a great educational outing for families. Beautiful during any season, I especially love the gardens, a glimpse above, that are meticulously maintained. There are many plants, from colonial times to the present, and they often have them for sale at the shop as well. Speaking of the shop, it's about my favorite little gift shop ever. All kinds of fun gifts for many different people and they have a wine bar and snacks.
-
Northern Neck Farm Museum: Explore the Northern Neck Farm Museum and get hands-on with the agricultural heritage of the region. Kids will love the interactive exhibits, and the whole family can enjoy learning about farming practices from the past to the present.
-
Stan’s Skateland: Have a blast at Stan’s Skateland, where you can lace up your roller skates (or rent some) and hit the rink for a fun-filled evening of skating. It’s a fantastic way for the adults to go back to their youth and for the family to enjoy some laughs together and burn some energy. We went as a family and my husband and I put on skates for the first time in at least 20 years. It took us a little while to remember how to skate, but the music was great and everyone had a ton of fun. There's even a limbo competition for the brave. Lots of good snacks and drinks to keep you fueled as well as an arcade if you need a break. They are open Friday-Sunday.
Which of these activities are you most excited to try with your family? Come BOOK at Easthaven and try them all!
